About Svartorseter
Svartorseter is located in Nordmarka approx. 25 minutes from Oslo city center. From the beginning of the 17th century, the farm was a part of Skøyen main estate. At the end of the 19th century, Svartorseter was the residence of the ski club Ull and Medicinerne.
One of the distinctive features of the area is that the ground is very calcareous. This provided the basis for my own lime kiln in the 19th century, which in its time supplied lime for the construction of Sørkedalen chapel (church). The calcareous soil also provides the basis for a rich biological diversity.
Svartorseter had livestock until 1970. For generations, the areas around the farm have been maintained by people and livestock, which have provided the basis for hay meadows and pastures. Svartorseter has been part of selected cultural landscapes in agriculture since 2009.
